It’s so funny… the first thing I will hear from everyone – is why don’t you let people use whatever it is they want – facebook – this – that – or the other thing. Drives me completely crazy.
I’m not letting someone use this or that – I’m offering an alternative with a purpose. It sometimes seems like people that ‘just want to get along with it’ – will bypass this essential part of getting along. The tools to do it with.
Anyway – I hate the way buddypress does messagning and that sort of thing. It’s horrible. There is a very good reason it’s horrible too. WordPress – and buddypress – are built on top of the fundamental idea of a relational database.
They are also build on the fundamental premis of ‘server client’ – as php is essentially a server client programming language.
“messagaing’ or ‘instant messaging’ is transactional based – and then relational. The transaction’s are far more frequent or ‘primary’ in significance than the relationship they have with much of anything. But everyone is a ‘server’ and everyone is a ‘client’.
Rocket Chat is build from the ground up using the kind of database that deals with those types of things as it’s primary operation – mondodb – as in contradiction to mysql which is more ‘relational’.
Anyway – rocketchat is a better tool for that job.
So instead of trying to get wordpress or buddypress to manage something it’s horrible at – I will just figure out how to integrate rocketchat without creating and administrative nightmare.
Some of the references I have included or saved below were me trying to find ways to get a more unified thing going with buddypress and bbpress before I decided to change direction. Included here for reference.
